Don’t Forget The Travel Insurance When You Travel
Sometimes overlooked or forgotten about and sometimes deliberately avoided due to cost issues, travel insurance is something that should certainly be considered if you are traveling anywhere overseas or abroad. Anything can happen from having a minor slip or fall to something more serious. If you need a hospital, the subsequent costs could be quite significant as this video clip from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office highlights.
The cost of a policy can vary from provider to provider and you may be able to find a policy that suits your destination, and the activities you’re going to be doing while also meeting a reasonable financial budget. This said, even if you do purchase a travel insurance policy you do need to ensure your policy does cover the destination and the activities you will be doing. Failure to check or simply purchasing a travel insurance based on cost rather than your actual needs could result in you not being sufficiently covered and result in you bearing any costs as your insurance provider may not pay out or assist you. This is as good as not having any travel insurance at all as this next video clip from Australia’s Channel 7 News clip shows:

My own personal experience with travel insurance and its benefits occurred break my glasses, and also while hiking in northern San Diego slipping on some rocks cracking my mobile phone screen AND bashing both of my knees. The injury to my knees was the more pressing issue. While able to walk my knees swelled up due to an infection and required me to visit an urgent care hospital in town which cost me in the region of $600 to be seen and receive medication. While having to wait in the hospital to be seen was probably as painful as the injury I knew as I had travel insurance, the financial pain and penalty was going to be fine. Even contacting my provider and telling them what happened was perfectly fine as I had indicated what I was likely to be doing while on holiday.
As you just don’t know what can happen while you’re traveling and based on my own experience I wouldn’t feel comfortable traveling without it as the peace of mind it gives you is in itself priceless in a way.
So if you are traveling anytime soon please please please do take the time to look and at least consider protecting yourself by looking at travel insurance
